Psystar to fight Apple over OpenMac

April 15th, 2008 · 2 Comments

The new Mac clone, OpenMac, is in direct violation with Apples end-user license agreement, which forbids third-party installations of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard on third party hardware, but the company has no plans to drop OpenMac and will fight Apple in court.

Psystar said that the company believes Apple’s terms violate U.S. monopoly laws, according to informationweek.

“What if Microsoft said you could only install Windows on Dell (Dell) computers?” said a Psystar employee going under the name “Robert”.

“They’re charging an 80% markup on hardware,” Robert further said to informationweek.

The base configuration of OpenMac sells for 400 dollars and features a 2.2-GHz Intel Core Duo processor with integrated Intel graphics chip, 2 GB of DDR system memory, and a 250-GB storage drive. It also offers 4 USB ports and a 20x DVD+/-R drive.

Apple has not responded yet.
